Bonacorsi Strawberry Shortcake

This recipe has been passed down through the years since it is the simplest, quickest way to get a satisfying dessert on the table! We have made this for lots of visiting relatives and for large parties. A warm, buttery, fluffy biscuit is paired with sweet, mashed-up strawberries, and topped with a mountain of whipped cream.

Instructions
Biscuit Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit. Combine all dry ingredients of the biscuits (flour, baking powder, salt, and white sugar) with the shortening. Use a pastry blender, finger tips, or fork to combine until small crumbs are formed. Create a well in the center of the bowl of dry ingredients, and pour in the milk. Stir until a sticky dough has been created, but be careful to not over-mix so that the biscuits stay light and fluffy. Drop the biscuits (typically makes ~12) onto parchment paper or a lightly greased pan. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
Strawberries Preparation
  1. Wash and cut the stems off of the strawberries. Place in a medium-sized bowl, and use a potato-masher or fork to crush the strawberries. Add 1/4 cup of white sugar, or enough to taste, since the fresh strawberries may be sweet enough to your taste already.
Finishing Touches
  1. Place warm biscuit in a small serving bowl, pour a cup or two of the mashed strawberries over the biscuit, and top with whipped cream. Enjoy!
