Chickens

Hatching eggs available @ $15/dozen: please enquire at the stand or send us an email at info@bonacorsifamilyfarm.com with hatching eggs in the subject line.  We have black copper marans (not outstanding by any means, but a decent meat bird and a darker egg than the other breeds, with an occasional super dark egg) and Easter eggers which will lay blue/green eggs (started from hatchery stock, but really pretty nice size eggs, good color and birds have nice disposition).  May be able to provide cochin eggs as well, but would need advance notice as the cochin roos are kept separately- have black, gray, and a buff splash.

Chickens and Chickens and Chickens, Oh My!!! (this part should really be updated!  We have a flock of about 75 layers right now, with a vast assortment of breeds.  Will update at some point!)

We started with chickens in February by ordering the Ornamental Layer collection from McMurray Hatchery.  In our 25 chicken assortment we have Easter Eggers (they will lay blue/green/pink eggs), Cochins (like the one with the feathered feet on the right), Egyptian Fayoumis, a Lakenvelder, and a couple of Silver Gray Dorkings.  They came as itty bitty puff balls, and just in time for the 4th of July we found our first egg.  The eggs are small when they first start to lay.  I added it to some eggs from our fridge that we bought from Kyle, a little friend with chickens that lives nearby.

To fill out the assortment, we have Black Copper Marans chicks.  We ordered them from private breeders in Virginia, Brandon and Heather Bishop at www.bbwingsnthings.com.  They will eventually provide dark brown eggs.
